Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2017 (50cl)

The wine
Opulent and luscious, with ripe apricot, white peach, acacia honey and exotic spice. Rich and harmoniously balanced, with bright acidity giving structure, a silky texture, greengage and honey notes and a long, spicy finish.
Botrytised Aszú berries are macerated in fermenting must to draw out their concentrated sugars, acids and flavours, and the puttonyos count once recorded how many baskets of Aszú were added. Aged for two years in 225-litre oak barrels. 2017 was an exceptional vintage, with intense, creamy botrytis on fully ripe grapes.
The producer
Disznókő
View all Disznókő winesDisznókő takes its name from a vineyard first recorded in 1413, and from the volcanic rock at its heart that gave it the name "wild boar stone". In the Tokaj classification compiled in 1732, its principal vineyards were ranked as first growths. AXA Millésimes bought the estate in 1992, replanted it at higher density and built a new winery, and Disznókő has since been at the forefront of the renaissance of great Tokaji.
The estate lies in the warm south of the region at Mezőzombor, a single contiguous vineyard of over 100 hectares on south-facing slopes of clay over volcanic rock. Sheltered by the Zemplén Mountains and bathed in morning mists from the Great Hungarian Plain, it is ideal for noble rot. The range runs from dry Furmint through Late Harvest and Szamorodni to Aszú, made by a team led by László Mészáros.
