The wine
Château d'Esclans is the estate that changed how the world regards Provence rose. Sacha Lichine bought it in 2006 and set out to make pink wine taken as seriously as any other, at a time when almost nobody did. Whispering Angel is the wine that carried the idea, and has become one of the most recognised names in rose anywhere in the world. Pale, dry and precise, from old Grenache and Rolle on cooler ground inland from the coast.

View all Château d'Esclans winesChâteau d'Esclans is the estate that changed how the world thinks about Provence rose. Sacha Lichine, son of the Bordeaux writer and proprietor Alexis Lichine, bought it in 2006 and set out to make rose taken as seriously as any other fine wine, at a time when almost nobody did.
Whispering Angel became the wine that carried the idea, and is now among the most recognised names in the category anywhere. Above it sit Rock Angel and, at the top, Garrus. The Pale is the lighter, more casual expression. The estate lies inland from the coast near La Motte, where old Grenache and Rolle grow on cooler, elevated ground.
