Zin Heaven Zinfandel Blush 2025
£8.75
The wine
Classic red berry and pink grapefruit aromas complemented by hints of black pepper and wild herbs. Smooth, with delicate berry and vanilla flavours through to a refreshing citrus finish.
Zinfandel Blush was created by accident at Sutter Home in 1975, when a fermentation stopped before it finished and left a pink, faintly sweet wine that was bottled anyway. It went on to become the most popular wine in America, and it rescued California's old Zinfandel plantings from being pulled up for lack of a market.

Zinfandel Blush was created by accident. In 1975 a Zinfandel fermentation at Sutter Home stopped before it finished, leaving a pink, faintly sweet wine that was bottled anyway and became White Zinfandel. It went on to be the most popular wine in the United States, and it rescued California's old Zinfandel vineyards, which were being pulled up for want of a market.
Zinfandel itself is one of the great puzzles of wine, its origins unknown for two centuries until DNA analysis in the early 2000s proved it identical to Primitivo in Puglia and to the near-extinct Croatian variety Tribidrag.
