The wine
Light, bright lemon with green hints, showing freshly cut pear and white stone fruit.
Pinot Grigio has pink-grey skins, so anything more than the briefest contact draws colour and phenolics the pale style does not want. From the Grave in the south of the region. Friuli in north-eastern Italy is the country most respected white wine region. The Grave is the flat, stony plain in the south, laid down by Alpine rivers; the Colli Orientali are the eastern hills against the Slovenian border, on ponca, a friable marl and sandstone that forces vines to root deep.
