The wine
The A Mano Fiano is a beautifully aromatic white from the deep south of Italy, the work of Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero in sun-drenched Puglia. It is built around the perfumed Minutolo clone of Fiano, grown in the breezy Itria Valley where cooling Adriatic air preserves all its lift and fragrance.
Gently pressed and fermented slowly in concrete, with a small portion of dried fruit folded in for extra texture, it pours a bright straw yellow with green glints. The nose offers nectarine, pear and orange blossom with a hint of jasmine, while the palate stays racy and fresh right through to a clean, mouth-watering finish.
A graceful aperitif that also flatters seafood, salads and lighter pasta. Serve well chilled.

A Mano
View all A Mano winesA Mano is the work of Mark Shannon, a Californian winemaker, and his partner Elvezia Sbalchiero, an Italian wine professional, who fell for the deep south of Italy and made Salento their home. Together they did something few thought possible: they turned humble Primitivo into one of Puglia’s most celebrated grapes.
Their approach is refreshingly simple. They pay properly for the very best fruit, much of it from gnarled alberello bush vines between seventy and a hundred years old, and let that quality speak for itself. The name captures the spirit of the place, A Mano meaning “by hand” in Italian, a nod to the care behind every bottle.
With the best part of two decades of Puglian vintages behind them, Mark and Elvezia have set a benchmark that growers across the region now follow. The A Mano Primitivo is the calling card: deep, spiced and supple, rich with warm Mediterranean fruit yet finished with a thoroughly modern sense of balance. This is southern Italy at its most generous, and its most polished.
