Lambert Wines Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2024

The wine
A benchmark Yarra Chardonnay with fantastic tension and a lovely mineral edge.
The Yarra Valley is among the coolest mainland Australian regions, and its steeper sites ripen slowly enough to keep acidity and perfume where the warmer valley floors do not. Chardonnay reflects the ground it grows on rather than imposing a flavour of its own, so on a slope this steep and this cool the wine comes out taut and citrus-driven rather than broad. Lambert Wines is Luke Lambert, sourcing from the steep Denton View Hill vineyard near Yarra Glen.
The producer
Lambert Wines
View all Lambert Wines winesLuke Lambert has a cult following for his single vineyard Yarra Valley wines, above all his Nebbiolo. The Brisbane born winemaker fell for the variety on his travels in Europe, hooked from the first glass.
After studies at Charles Sturt University and a job at James Halliday's Coldstream Hills, Lambert began making his own wines in his garage before releasing his first vintage in 2005. He farms with a light touch, seeking elegance and drive.
The range centres on his benchmark, perfumed Yarra Valley Nebbiolo, a wine of real finesse, alongside a taut, mineral Chardonnay.
Elegant, precise and distinctive, Lambert's wines bring an Italian sensibility to cool climate Australia. They combine perfume with structure and freshness. Among the Yarra Valley's most characterful wines.
