Vigneti del Vulture Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture 2024
£12.95
The wine
Bright ruby red with violet reflections. Intense cherry and sour black fruit.
Aglianico del Vulture grows on volcanic ash at 400 to 700 metres, and the grape is late-ripening and formidably tannic, often picked into November. It is the southern counterpart to Nebbiolo and Barolo: the same demand for patience, at a fraction of the price, because almost nobody outside Italy has heard of it. Vigneti del Vulture work the slopes of Monte Vulture in Basilicata, an extinct volcano in the poorest and least travelled region of Italy.

Vigneti del Vulture
View all Vigneti del Vulture winesVigneti del Vulture takes its name from Monte Vulture, the extinct volcano that dominates the landscape of Basilicata in southern Italy. Here, on dark volcanic soils, the estate crafts wines from Aglianico, one of the country's most noble red grapes.
The high, cool vineyards on the volcano's slopes give Aglianico del Vulture its distinctive tension, marrying southern ripeness with a savoury, mineral edge and firm structure.
The Pipoli range offers approachable, characterful drinking in both red and white, while the Piano del Cerro is the estate's structured, age-worthy flagship Aglianico.
Distinctive, mineral and proudly volcanic, these are wines of real southern depth. Discover the noble Aglianico of Vulture.
