Domaine Vico Le Bois du Cerf Rouge 2024
£19.45
The wine
Bright red-ruby, with an aromatic nose of pure red and black cherries and herbal lift.
The red blends Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu, the two Corsican natives, Niellucciu being genetically identical to Sangiovese and brought to the island under Genoese rule. The herbal note is the maquis, the dense aromatic scrub that covers Corsica and turns up in almost everything grown among it. Domaine Vico is in the Corsican interior, in the foothills north-east of Ponte Leccia, at altitude and well away from the coast.

The range centres on the Bois du Cerf label, offering bright whites and juicy, savoury reds at genuinely friendly prices. Each captures the maquis-scented soul of the island.
