Domaine Vico Le Bois du Cerf Rouge 2023
£18.95
The wine
Bright red-ruby, with an aromatic nose of pure red and black cherries and herbal lift.
Niellucciu is genetically identical to Sangiovese, brought to the island during Genoese rule, while Sciaccarellu is native to Corsica alone. Corsica is closer to Italy than to France and its grape names follow: Vermentinu is Vermentino, Niellucciu is Sangiovese and Sciaccarellu is native to the island. The mountainous interior, rather than the coastal resorts, is where the serious wines are made. Domaine Vico is in the Corsican interior, in the foothills north-east of Ponte Leccia, at altitude and well away from the coast.

Domaine Vico
View all Domaine Vico winesOn the rugged island of Corsica, Domaine Vico crafts characterful wines from the region native grapes. Set in the granite hills of the island interior, it farms in harmony with a wild, sun-drenched landscape. These are wines with a real sense of place.
Vico works with Corsica distinctive varieties, chiefly Vermentinu for whites and the red Nielluccio and Sciaccarello. Careful, modern winemaking keeps the fruit fresh and the herbal, Mediterranean character vivid. The style is honest and generous.
The range centres on the Bois du Cerf label, offering bright whites and juicy, savoury reds at genuinely friendly prices. Each captures the maquis-scented soul of the island.
To pour a Vico wine is to taste Corsica at its most inviting. Fresh, herbal, and full of southern warmth, these are wines made for easy, sunlit drinking.
