The wine
An aromatic nose of honeysuckle, pineapple and honeydew melon with a touch of brioche.
Roussanne is a Rhône white, difficult in the vineyard and prone to irregular yields, which is why it is rarely bottled alone anywhere. Carneros straddles the southern ends of Napa and Sonoma, where the land opens onto San Pablo Bay and the fog and wind come straight off the water. It is far cooler than the Napa Valley floor to the north, which is why it grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir where the rest of Napa grows Cabernet.
The producer
Truchard
View all Truchard winesTruchard is a family estate in Carneros, the cool southern gateway to Napa Valley where fog and bay breezes temper the California sun. Tony and Jo Ann Truchard planted their first vines here in the 1970s and remain celebrated growers as much as winemakers.
Farming their own hillside vineyards gives the family a rare command of quality, and their cool Carneros home lends the wines a freshness and balance that sets them apart from richer Napa styles.
The Carneros Chardonnay is elegant and finely poised, the Cabernet Sauvignon supple and detailed rather than blockbuster, and the Roussanne a distinctive, textured white from a Rhône grape rarely seen here.
Understated, food-friendly and quietly classy, Truchard is Napa with restraint. Discover the graceful side of Carneros.
