The wine
A vibrant Marlborough Pinot Noir brimming with black cherry, raspberry and plum, complemented by subtle herbal and spicy nuances. Polished tannins give structure and a lively acidity carries the fruit through to a juicy finish.
The Southern Valleys sit on rolling hillsides south of the Wairau Plain, sheltered from the coastal winds, where weathered clay loams and gravels over a greywacke base hold their moisture well and suit Pinot Noir far better than the free-draining river stones below. Fiona Turner’s fruit here is Dijon clone 777, hand-picked and rigorously sorted, fermented in stainless steel with 50% whole bunch to build structure, then aged for 12 months in new and used French oak and bottled without fining. The 2025 harvest was one of Marlborough’s driest and warmest on record, a La Niña summer that ripened the fruit early and kept disease pressure low.
The producer
Tinpot Hut
View all Tinpot Hut winesTinpot Hut is the personal project of winemaker Fiona Turner, one of Marlborough's most experienced hands. The name recalls the old musterers' huts of New Zealand's high country, a nod to independence and craft.
Turner's focus is on expressive, precisely made wines from carefully chosen Marlborough sites, with an emphasis on aromatic lift and balance rather than sheer power.
The Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is vivid and zesty, the Pinot Gris textured and pear-scented, and the Rieslings, both dry Wairau Valley and the honeyed Late Harvest, show the region's gift for aromatic whites.
Polished, characterful and personally made, these are wines with a winemaker's signature. Discover Marlborough with a craftsperson's touch.
