The wine
Sauvignon Blanc in the Great Southern of Western Australia is a long way from Marlborough in both distance and style, coming out more citrus-driven and less overtly herbaceous.
The Great Southern is enormous and sparsely planted, running from the coast at Albany inland to Frankland River, and its distance from anywhere keeps growing costs high and volumes low. What it gives in return is a long, slow ripening season and wines of unusual definition. Three Lions is made by Plantagenet, whose 126 hectares were carved out of the Great Southern in Western Australia, the largest wine region in the country by area.
