Theopetra Estate Terre Grec Muscat Sauvignon 2025

The wine
An aromatic pairing from the Tyrnavos vineyards in Thessaly, where Muscat has been grown for generations. The Muscat gives the perfume and grapey lift, the Sauvignon Blanc the cut and the green-fruited freshness. Light, crisp and dry.
Terre Grec is the estate's Tyrnavos range, from vineyards on the Thessalian plain rather than the Meteora slopes. Muscat has been grown around Tyrnavos for centuries, mostly for the local aniseed spirit tsipouro; blended dry with Sauvignon Blanc it gives an aromatic, grapey lift with the Sauvignon supplying the cut.

Theopetra Estate
View all Theopetra Estate winesThe Tsililis family created Theopetra Estate in 1996 at the foot of the Meteora rocks in Thessaly, farming organically on the slopes below the monasteries.
The setting is genuinely ancient. The Theopetra Cave beside the vineyards has been excavated continuously for decades and holds evidence of human occupation running back some 130,000 years, including what may be the oldest known man-made structure, a stone wall built across the entrance during the last ice age. Grape seeds found in the cave show the vine and this landscape have coexisted for a very long time.
The estate works both the Meteora appellation and vineyards at Tyrnavos, and the range is built around Greek varieties: Assyrtiko and Malagouzia for the whites, Xinomavro and Limniona for the reds, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah alongside. Limniona in particular, a Thessalian native rescued from near extinction, is one of the more exciting Greek reds.
