Tahbilk Museum Release Marsanne 2018
£15.25
The wine
The famous museum programme: Marsanne cellared at the winery until its aged character emerges. Lifted honeysuckle and toasty notes shine on the nose, the rich, honeyed palate brimming with lemon citrus before a chalky, mineral-fresh finish. Mature white wine of genuine pedigree at an almost absurd price; roast chicken's best friend.

Tahbilk
View all Tahbilk winesEstablished in 1860, Tahbilk is one of Australia's great historic family wineries, set in the Nagambie Lakes of Central Victoria. The name comes from tabilk tabilk, place of many waterholes in the language of the Daungwurrung clans, and it fits: 1,214 hectares with seven miles of frontage to the Goulburn River.
Tahbilk is renowned above all for Marsanne. The estate holds the world's largest single planting of the variety, including vines established in 1927 that are among the oldest anywhere, and its rare aged releases are collected the world over. The reds, from estate Shiraz to the Old Vines Cabernet Shiraz, carry the same unhurried, savoury stamp.
Environmental care is paramount: Tahbilk has been carbon neutral since 2013. In 2016 James Halliday named it Winery of the Year. Few cellars anywhere offer this much history for the money.
