The wine
A complex nose laden with spice and red fruit leading to a poised, balanced palate of graphite, sage and kalamata.
The Balhannah vineyard was planted in 2005 with low-yielding Shiraz clones at high density. Dense planting forces vines to compete for water and nutrients, lowering yields per vine and concentrating the fruit. Shaw + Smith own vineyards at Balhannah, Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills, founded in 1989 by the cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw.
