Quinta dos Carvalhais Dão Branco Reserva 2022
£32.75
The wine
Bright citrus-yellow, with pronounced pear, peach and quince alongside hints of cedar.
A barrel-aged Encruzado from older vines, whose deeper roots carried them through the heat and drought of the growing season. Encruzado is one of the few Portuguese white grapes with the structure to take oak without being flattened by it. Quinta dos Carvalhais lies in the Dão, and the estate has led the replanting of near-extinct local varieties, Encruzado among them, now regarded as one of the finest white grapes in Portugal.
