The wine
A classic Friulian Sauvignon Blanc. Pale lemon with hints of green, offering herbaceous notes.
Friuli has grown Sauvignon since the nineteenth century and its style sits between the Loire and Marlborough: herbal and textural rather than pungent. Friuli in north-eastern Italy is the country most respected white wine region. The Grave is the flat, stony plain in the south, laid down by Alpine rivers; the Colli Orientali are the eastern hills against the Slovenian border, on ponca, a friable marl and sandstone that forces vines to root deep.
