The wine
A creamy, intense and slightly floral first nose, its brightness evoking mandarin and orange blossom. Juicy black plum, mirabelle, blackcurrant, dried apricot and nectarine compote follow.
A white wine made from Pinot Noir grown in Marlborough, which is an unusual thing for a Champagne house to bottle at all. The fruit was vinified a quarter in stainless steel and three quarters in ten-year-old oak barrels, aged ten and six months respectively before blending. The Hors-Série range is where Piper-Heidsieck put their experiments.
