Matthieu Barret Et La Bannière Crozes-Hermitage 2024
£25.95
The wine
An intense nose of red fruit and subtle smokiness. Elegant and fruit-forward on the palate.
Et La Bannière comes from vineyards owned by a friend of Barret, a well-known Crozes-Hermitage grower. Crozes is the largest northern appellation at over 1,300 hectares and the most varied, and it is where northern Rhône Syrah remains affordable. Matthieu Barret farms biodynamically at Cornas in the northern Rhône, and the Petit Ours wines are his more approachable range.

Farming is resolutely biodynamic, the vineyards worked with great care to express their granite terroir. In the cellar Barret favours a natural, low-intervention approach, capturing vibrant fruit, freshness and the peppery, floral signature of northern-Rhône Syrah.
The range offers wonderful accessibility to his style, from the juicy, vibrant Petit Ours Côtes-du-Rhône and a textural Petit Ours Blanc to a fresh, expressive Crozes-Hermitage. Each shows purity and drive at a generous price.
Vivid, mineral and full of life, Matthieu Barret's wines are northern-Rhône Syrah with soul. They offer serious quality and character for the curious drinker.
