The wine
Goats do Roam White is a Rhône-style blend built on Viognier and Roussanne with other white varieties, made fresh and aromatic rather than weighty.
The name is a deliberate play on Côtes du Rhône, and the joke went far enough that the French authorities objected. The wines are Rhône varieties grown in Paarl and the Swartland, which was the serious point underneath: Charles Back of Fairview was among the first in South Africa to plant them. Goats do Roam began when Charles Back young son Jason left a paddock gate open and the estate goats wandered into the vineyard and ate their way through it.

View all Goats do Roam winesGoats do Roam is the playful sister brand of Fairview, one of South Africa's best-loved estates in Paarl. A cheeky nod to the Côtes du Rhône, its wines celebrate Rhône grapes grown in the Cape. Behind the fun lies serious, well-made wine.
The grapes come from Paarl and across the Coastal Region, where warm sun and cooling breezes ripen Rhône and Mediterranean varieties. Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre lead the reds, with aromatic whites alongside. The style is ripe, generous and approachable.
The range spans the flagship Goats do Roam Red and White, and the Italian-inspired Goatfather blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet. Each is fruit-filled and easy to love. They are made for everyday enjoyment.
Goats do Roam wines are ripe, characterful and great value. They bring a smile as well as real flavour. A dependable, sunny taste of the Cape.
