Finca os Cobatos Godello Monterrei 2025
£14.25
The wine
A highly aromatic wine showing zesty citrus aromas combined with ripe stone fruit, a mineral sensation and a hint of white pepper. Dry, with a refreshing crisp palate of pineapple and tropical fruit and a delicious dry citrus finish.
Monterrei is the smallest and least known of Galicia's five appellations, sheltered from the Atlantic by mountains and markedly warmer and drier than Rías Baixas. Godello was reduced to a handful of hectares by the 1970s and is now regarded as one of Spain's finest whites, with real structure and the capacity to age.

Finca os Cobatos
View all Finca os Cobatos winesFinca os Cobatos works in Monterrei, the smallest and least known of Galicia's five wine appellations, in the far south-east against the Portuguese border.
Monterrei is the exception among Galician regions. Sheltered from the Atlantic by mountains and open to the Portuguese interior, it is markedly warmer and drier than Rias Baixas or Ribeiro, which makes ripening straightforward where elsewhere in Galicia it is a struggle. The valley of the Tamega has grown vines since Roman times, and the region was recognised as an appellation only in 1996.
Godello is the grape, reduced to a handful of hectares by the 1970s and now regarded as one of Spain's finest whites. It gives a fuller, more mineral and more structured wine than Albarino, with the capacity to age.
