Domaine Graeme and Julie Bott Kamaka Syrah 2022

The wine
A pure, complex and elegant expression of Syrah, with captivating notes of redcurrant, plum and black pepper, laced with mesquite smoke. The beautifully texture knits all of the elements together on a silky, harmonious palate with hints of juniper and shaved graphite lining the impressive finish. Kamaka is the Maori word for rock, a nod to Graeme's New Zealand roots and to the schist of Seyssuel, the ancient vineyard north of Vienne that Roman writers praised and which growers have only recently replanted.

Domaine Graeme and Julie Bott
View all Domaine Graeme and Julie Bott winesGraeme and Julie Bott have become one of the northern Rhône's most talked-about young domaines. Graeme is from New Zealand, Julie a native of the northern Rhône; they met working at Domaine Ogier, one of the leading names in Côte-Rôtie.
The domaine came about by happy accident. On buying their first house they discovered that its garden sat on the hillside of Verin, within prime Condrieu appellation, and the estate grew from there. They now farm ten hectares across Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and the little-known Seyssuel.
They remain boutique producers in the truest sense. The first vintages were made in a neighbour's garage; they now have their own cellar, tucked just beneath La Mouline in Côte-Rôtie. The wines are handcrafted, nuanced and increasingly hard to find.
