Domaine Fabien Coche Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2024

The wine
Les Charmes is the largest of Meursault premiers crus and, with Perrières and Genevrières, one of the three the village treats as unofficial grand crus. It sits mid-slope on the Puligny side, where deeper and gentler soil over limestone gives a rounder, more open style than the stonier Perrières above it.
Fabien Coche runs what was Domaine Coche-Bizouard, one of the Coche branches long established in Meursault and a cousin house to the better known Coche-Dury. He took over from his father Alain, and the domaine works parcels across Meursault and its crus alongside neighbouring villages of the Côte de Beaune. Meursault has no grand cru of its own, an accident of how the appellations were settled in the 1930s rather than a judgement on the ground, which is why Charmes, Genevrières and Perrières carry the reputation and the prices that they do.

Domaine Fabien Coche
View all Domaine Fabien Coche winesIn the heart of Meursault, where the Côte de Beaune folds into a patchwork of walled vineyards, the Coche name carries quiet authority. Fabien Coche tends a domaine passed through generations, farming parcels his family has known intimately for decades. His work begins in the vineyard, where low yields and patient attention set the tone for everything that follows.
The cellar approach is unhurried and precise. Grapes are pressed gently, fermented with native yeasts, and aged on their lees in oak, a portion of it new. Coche resists the temptation to overwork his wines, letting each parcel speak in its own accent. The result is Meursault of genuine depth, built for the table and for the years ahead.
There is range here too. Alongside the celebrated whites sit expressive reds, Pinot Noir of poise and perfume that reward the curious. Even the village Bourgogne carries the domaine signature of clarity, texture, and a finish that lingers.
To pour a Coche wine is to taste Meursault as its growers know it. Refined, generous, and unmistakably of its place.
