Domaine Chevrot Santenay Blanc 1er Cru Clos Rousseau 2022
£55.75
The wine
A classic expression of Santenay, with intense citrus married to a subtle toastiness.
Clos Rousseau lies at the southern edge of Santenay, on the Maranges border. Santenay whites are considerably better value than those of Chassagne-Montrachet immediately to the north, sharing much of the same slope. Domaine Chevrot farm at Cheilly-lès-Maranges, at the far southern end of the Côte de Beaune, certified organic and now run by the brothers Pablo and Vincent.

Domaine Chevrot
View all Domaine Chevrot winesDomaine Chevrot is a fine family estate in Cheilly-lès-Maranges, at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. Farmed organically and biodynamically by the Chevrot brothers, it has become the leading name of the Maranges appellation. Its wines are a benchmark for the region.
The domaine works Chardonnay and Pinot Noir across Maranges and neighbouring Santenay, on the limestone and marl slopes of the southern Côte. Organic, low-intervention farming keeps the fruit pure and expressive. Each parcel is vinified separately.
In the cellar the approach is gentle and precise, with whole-bunch ferments and restrained oak that preserve freshness and terroir. The whites are taut and mineral, the reds fragrant and supple. Purity guides the range.
From village Maranges to premier cru Santenay and Maranges, Chevrot offers the southern Côte de Beaune at its best. Fresh, characterful and keenly priced, these are wines for lovers of honest, terroir-driven Burgundy.
