The wine

Delicious bramble and red cherries with a touch of spice.

Sur le Chêne is a village-level lieu-dit. Maranges is the last appellation on the Côte d Or, immediately south of Santenay, and being one village too far from the famous names it remains among the best value in Burgundy. La Fussière is its largest and best-regarded premier cru. Domaine Chevrot farm at Cheilly-lès-Maranges, at the far southern end of the Côte de Beaune, certified organic and now run by the brothers Pablo and Vincent.

The producer

Domaine Chevrot is a fine family estate in Cheilly-lès-Maranges, at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. Farmed organically and biodynamically by the Chevrot brothers, it has become the leading name of the Maranges appellation. Its wines are a benchmark for the region.

The domaine works Chardonnay and Pinot Noir across Maranges and neighbouring Santenay, on the limestone and marl slopes of the southern Côte. Organic, low-intervention farming keeps the fruit pure and expressive. Each parcel is vinified separately.

In the cellar the approach is gentle and precise, with whole-bunch ferments and restrained oak that preserve freshness and terroir. The whites are taut and mineral, the reds fragrant and supple. Purity guides the range.

From village Maranges to premier cru Santenay and Maranges, Chevrot offers the southern Côte de Beaune at its best. Fresh, characterful and keenly priced, these are wines for lovers of honest, terroir-driven Burgundy.
