Domaine Borgeot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains 2023
£114.25
The wine
Pale golden. Ripe citrus and stone fruit married with subtle brioche and pastry. A wine of saline tension and lively acidity.
Champ Gain sits at the very top of the Puligny slope, bordering Saint-Aubin to the west, with an ideal south-south-easterly aspect. Being high on the slope means thinner soil and later ripening, which is exactly where the saline tension comes from. Hand harvested, sorted, gently whole-bunch pressed and the must cooled before fermentation.

Domaine Borgeot
View all Domaine Borgeot winesDomaine Borgeot is a family estate based at Remigny, on the border of Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune. Run by brothers who farm and buy from prime parcels, it has built a name for polished, keenly priced white Burgundy. Both grower and négociant, it draws on some fine addresses.
The domaine works Chardonnay across the great white villages of Puligny, Chassagne and Santenay, with Pinot Noir for its reds. The limestone soils of the Côte de Beaune give the whites their minerality and cut. Careful farming and sourcing keep quality high across the range.
In the cellar, classical winemaking and measured oak ageing produce wines of freshness and finesse. The whites are taut and mineral, the reds fragrant and supple, all true to their appellations. Balance guides every cuvée.
From an everyday Bourgogne Blanc to premier cru Puligny and Chassagne, Borgeot offers the Côte de Beaune across the board. Precise, elegant and fairly priced, these are wines for lovers of white Burgundy.
