Château Delmond Sauternes 2023
£28.25
The wine
A classic Sauternes from a fine 2023, blending botrytised Sémillon with a splash of Sauvignon Blanc. Noble rot concentrates the fruit into liquid gold, pressed and aged slowly for depth.
Aromas of apricot, honey and candied orange fill the glass. The palate is richly sweet yet beautifully poised, with bright acidity carrying flavours of marmalade and vanilla to a long, glowing finish.
A treat with fruit tarts, crème brûlée or a wedge of Roquefort. Serve well chilled, in small glasses, to close a meal in style.

Château Delmond
View all Château Delmond winesChâteau Delmond is a small family property in Sauternes, the storied corner of Bordeaux where sweet golden wine has been made for centuries. Set among the vineyards that hug the Ciron and Garonne rivers, it works in one of the wine world's most demanding appellations. Great Sauternes is never guaranteed, and each harvest is met with patience.
The magic here is noble rot, the benevolent Botrytis cinerea that shrivels the grapes and concentrates their sugars. Sémillon leads the blend, joined by Sauvignon Blanc for lift and freshness. Pickers pass through the vines many times, selecting only the berries touched by rot at the perfect moment.
The shrivelled fruit is pressed slowly, fermented with care and aged to build depth. The result is a wine of luscious sweetness balanced by bright acidity, so it glides rather than cloys. Time only deepens its honeyed character.
Delmond offers the golden richness of Sauternes without pretence. It is a wine for celebration and quiet indulgence alike, as happy with pudding as with a wedge of blue cheese.
