The wine

A light gold wine with layered aromas of ripe stone fruit, apricot and peach, over white flowers and a touch of vanilla. The palate has a vibrant acidity and a fresh citrus character, with the touch of minerality Pressano is known for. The long finish is floral and fragrant.

The vineyards sit at around 350 metres on the west-facing Pressano hill, on red soils weathered from Triassic sandstone. Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio are Guyot trained at 7,000 vines per hectare, the Pinot Bianco grown on pergola at 4,000, with an average vine age of about 35 years. Each variety is picked and vinified separately, pressed under inert conditions and fermented in large oak and used barriques where it stays ten months. The blend is only assembled after that ageing, and the wine is released two years after harvest.

The producer

In the hills of Trentino, north of Trento, the Cesconi family tends its vines with rare care and conviction. Theirs is an artisan estate, farmed organically and by hand, where every wine is made to express its grape and its cool mountain home. It is small-scale winemaking at its most committed, run by brothers who do almost everything themselves.

From a serious, textured Pinot Grigio that puts most examples to shame to the rare native Nosiola, the range is all about purity, freshness and quiet detail. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is over-worked or over-oaked.

Precise, mineral and gently distinguished, these are among the finest whites of the Italian Alps. They have a devoted following among sommeliers precisely for that honesty and clarity.

Serve them well chilled, as an aperitif or with lighter dishes, and taste the clarity and cool air of Trentino.
