Cave de Hunawihr Riesling Réserve 2024
£13.75
The wine
A beautiful pale yellow. An elegant nose with pronounced lime and grapefruit.
Riesling is the most highly regarded of the four noble Alsace grapes and the one that shows site most clearly. Alsace sits in the rain shadow of the Vosges and is one of the driest places in France, which is why it ripens aromatic whites so fully this far north. Its grand cru list covers 51 sites and has long been criticised for including too much and omitting too many good lieux-dits. Cave de Hunawihr is the co-operative of one of the most celebrated wine villages in Alsace, founded in 1954 and drawing on the slopes around the village.

View all Cave de Hunawihr winesIn the storybook village of Hunawihr, on the Alsace wine route, the local cooperative has gathered the fruit of its members' vines for generations. This is a picture-perfect corner of the Haut-Rhin, half-timbered and flower-decked, home to some of Alsace's finest slopes, including the celebrated Rosacker Grand Cru. It is Alsace at its most idyllic.
From crisp, gently rounded Pinot Blanc to racy dry Riesling and richer, gastronomic Pinot Gris, the range showcases Alsace's aromatic white grapes at their food-friendly best. Each is made cleanly and precisely, letting the grape and the slope speak.
Pure, precise and beautifully priced, these are wines of real Alsace charm and versatility. They flatter the table and reward the curious, from everyday whites to a serious Grand Cru.
Serve them well chilled, as an aperitif or with the rich food of the region, and taste the sunny slopes of Hunawihr.
