The wine

Sauvignon Blanc bottled as Pays d Oc, the regional IGP that covers the whole Languedoc and permits varieties and blends the local appellations would not.

The Languedoc is the largest wine region in France by area, and for most of the twentieth century it produced bulk wine. The transformation since the 1990s has been the most dramatic anywhere in the country, and Pays d Oc is the regional IGP that gives growers freedom the appellations do not. Sauvignon needs cooler sites this far south to keep its aromatics, and the limestone and clay soils here hold enough water to slow ripening through the summer. Domaine de Castelnau Garenne works in the Languedoc on limestone, clay and loam, soils whose water retention matters more each year as the summers lengthen.

The producer

In the sun-drenched Languedoc, Domaine de Castelnau Garenne crafts bright, easy-drinking wines from the warm Pays d'Oc. Set among the garrigue-scented hills, it farms a range of classic southern grapes. These are honest wines made for everyday pleasure.

Careful farming and fresh, modern winemaking keep the fruit vivid and the wines clean. The aim is character and drinkability at a genuinely welcoming price. Nothing here is overworked.

The range spans crisp Sauvignon and Picpoul whites, a charming rosé, and juicy Syrah. Each offers plenty of southern warmth and character for the money.

To pour a Castelnau Garenne wine is to taste the sunny, generous side of the Languedoc. Fresh, fruit-filled, and versatile, these are wines made for sharing.
