Blackbook Seyval Blanc GMF 2020

The wine
Seyval Blanc, the workhorse of early English viticulture, taken seriously at last. From Oxfordshire fruit and made with Blackbook's minimal-intervention hand, it is textural and saline, with green apple, lemon pith and a smoky, savoury depth from time in oak. Unusual, characterful and quietly compelling.

Blackbook Winery
View all Blackbook Winery winesBlackbook is an urban winery in a railway arch in Battersea, south London, where Sergio Verrillo and Lynsey Verrillo make some of England's most compelling still wines. The philosophy is simple: tradition blended with innovation.
Grapes come from carefully chosen growers within a couple of hours of the city, and Blackbook's job is to bring that vineyard work to the forefront through a range of single-vineyard bottlings. The focus is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, handled minimally, with low to zero sulphur and natural yeasts. The results reflect the vibrancy, culture and energy of London itself, and make a compelling case that England can produce world-class still wine, not merely sparkling.
