Pelee Island is Canada's largest independent winery and its largest estate vineyard, 600 acres in the western basin of Lake Erie on the country's southernmost inhabited tip of land. Home to over 10,000 indigenous species, the island is the environmental pride of Canada.
It is also, surprisingly, warm: below the 41st parallel, as far south as Mendocino, Rome and Madrid, with a growing season more than fifty days longer than mainland Canada. That warmth ripens the grapes; the Canadian winter then makes the magic, freezing Vidal berries on the vine for one of the world's benchmark Icewines. Luscious, concentrated and beautifully balanced, it is the taste of a Canadian winter with none of the frostbite.
