Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
£17.95
The wine
The estate Cabernet, seasoned with Malbec and Petit Verdot. Refined and concentrated, of great class, with ripe tannins and characteristic cassis, mulberry and blue fruits entwined with hints of mocha. 96 points from James Halliday for the 2022. Margaret River's signature grape from a Jimmy Watson-winning house; roast lamb is the classic call.
The producer
Xanadu
View all Xanadu winesXanadu is a true pioneer of Margaret River. Irish doctor John Lagan arrived in the region in 1968 and, captivated by its pioneering spirit, planted his first vines with his wife Eithne in 1977, naming the property after the idyllic paradise of Coleridge's Kubla Khan.
True to its poetic namesake, the setting is idyllic: 65 hectares of sustainably farmed vines near the Indian Ocean, producing fresh, vibrant coastal wines. Winemaker Glenn Goodall joined in 1999 and has led Xanadu to the front rank of Australian wine, winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy in 2018 and being named Halliday's Best Winemaker of the Year in 2023.
From the easy charm of the Circa 77 range, named for that first planting, through the estate wines to the Reserve and Stevens Road bottlings, this is Margaret River Chardonnay and Cabernet of genuine world class.
