The wine

A layered, floral nose of rose petal, bay leaves and rocket, with bright cranberry and cherry fruit. Elegant and complex on the palate.

The Smart vineyard at Clarendon is a century-old hectare of bush vines, in the higher, cooler eastern reaches of McLaren Vale. Hand harvested, destemmed and whole-berry sorted into stainless steel open fermenters, so the berries ferment intact before splitting, which gives lift without stem tannin.

The producer

Willunga 100 is a McLaren Vale label with a single-minded devotion to Grenache, the grape that thrives in the warm, maritime-cooled vineyards of this celebrated South Australian region. It has become one of the most exciting names for the variety in the country.

The focus is on old bush vines and distinctive sub-districts, above all the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, which lend Grenache a remarkable perfume and silky elegance. Single-vineyard bottlings showcase each site's character.

From the bright, juicy McLaren Vale Grenache to the perfumed single-vineyard wines of Blewitt Springs and Clarendon, plus a peppery Shiraz and a fresh Grenache rosé, the range celebrates the region's warm generosity with real finesse.

Perfumed, silky and full of sunshine, these are wines that show Grenache at its most beguiling. Discover the heart of McLaren Vale.
