The wine

Full of inviting citrus, fresh blossom and green apple. The palate is beautifully balanced, with melon and a touch of pink grapefruit. A long finish and a distinctive acidity give it real potential for ageing.

The fruit comes from a single vineyard near Lake Waitaki in North Otago, a region defined by limestone-rich soils that give its wines minerality and focus. North Otago has a maritime climate, which sets it apart from the semi-continental Central Otago to the south and is a large part of why the acidity here is so vibrant. Hand-picked in late April, whole-bunch pressed to stainless steel and cold-settled for two days, then fermented cool on selected yeasts with the fermentation stopped at the point of balance, leaving the wine gently off-dry.

The producer

Wild Earth is a Central Otago estate devoted to Pinot Noir, the grape that has made this dramatic corner of New Zealand's South Island famous. Set among some of the world's most southerly vineyards, it crafts wines of purity and perfume.

Central Otago's continental climate, with its warm days and cold nights, and its schist-rich soils give Pinot Noir both ripeness and a vivid, lifted freshness. Careful farming preserves that natural energy.

The Central Otago Pinot Noir is the heart of the range, a perfumed, silky red of red-berry fruit and fine, elegant tannin, true to its cool-climate home.

Pure, expressive and beautifully balanced, this is Central Otago Pinot at its most appealing. Discover the wild south of New Zealand.
