Viña VIK Stonevik 2023
£142.45
The wine
The summit of the estate: Cabernet Franc-led, from stony granitic slopes. Full-bodied and imbued with tightly layered tannins of velvety texture, carrying blackberry, earth, mushroom, graphite and herbal sage; delicious and long with chocolatey tones on an everlasting finish. A statement wine from a statement estate.
The producer
Viña VIK
View all Viña VIK winesViña VIK was born of pure ambition. In 2004, Alex and Carrie Vik set out to create a world-class vineyard from first principles: two years of scientific research led them to 4,400 hectares at Millahue, "Place of Gold" in Chile's indigenous tongue, in the foothills of the Andes in the Cachapoal Valley.
A team of winemakers, climatologists, geologists and agronomists mapped the terroir before a single vine of the 327 hectares went in. Winemaker Cristian Vallejo works with minimal intervention, hand-harvesting and natural fermentations, producing wines that are elegant, voluptuous, complex and balanced.
From the estate blends Omega and Milla Cala to the grand VIK itself and the Cabernet Franc-led Stonevik, this is modern Chile at its most breathtaking, with the avant-garde winery and hilltop retreat to match.
