Viña Mayor Ribera del Duero Roble 2024
£12.45
The wine
Wonderfully juicy, brimming with bright blackberry fruit. Smooth and refreshing.
Roble means oak, and denotes a wine given a few months in barrel rather than the years a Crianza demands, so it keeps its fruit and drinks young. Ribera del Duero sits on the high Castilian plateau at around 800 metres, where summer days reach forty degrees and nights fall to single figures. Tempranillo is known here as Tinto Fino or Tinta del País, and that daily swing gives it far more colour and structure than in Rioja. Viña Mayor farm in Ribera del Duero and have rewilded much of the estate, reintroducing native flora and fauna alongside the vineyards.

Viña Mayor
View all Viña Mayor winesViña Mayor is one of the most respected names in Ribera del Duero, Spain's powerhouse region for Tempranillo. It has built its reputation on classically styled reds that capture the depth and structure this high, dramatic terroir is famous for.
The vineyards lie along the Duero river, where scorching days and cold nights and poor soils give small, concentrated berries of great intensity. Traditional oak ageing shapes the wines' character.
The range spans the bright, lightly oaked Roble, the polished Crianza and the structured, age-worthy Reserva, each a faithful expression of Ribera del Duero at its price.
Classic, dependable and full of character, these are benchmark Spanish reds. Discover the enduring appeal of Ribera del Duero.
