Vesevo Aglianico 2023
£12.75
The wine
Deep ruby red with violet reflections. A complex and intense nose of dark fruit and spice.
Aglianico is the great red grape of southern Italy, late-ripening and formidably tannic, often harvested into November. Campania holds some of the oldest vine material in Italy, its native varieties having survived phylloxera on volcanic soils where the louse could not travel, and its whites are among the few in southern Italy capable of real age. Vesevo takes its Latin name from Vesuvius, and works in Campania where the vineyards sit between 450 and 700 metres in constant airflow off the mountains.

Vesevo
View all Vesevo winesVesevo takes its name from Vesuvius and captures the volcanic soul of Campania in southern Italy. The estate champions the region's noble native grapes, crafting characterful wines that speak clearly of their sun-warmed, mineral-rich home.
The vineyards lie across the hills of Irpinia and beyond, where volcanic and limestone soils and cooling altitude give the wines both intensity and freshness. Farming focuses on the great local varieties rather than international fashion.
Aglianico is the backbone of the reds, reaching its peak in the structured Ensis Taurasi, while Greco di Tufo and Falanghina show the vivid, saline character of Campania's whites.
Authentic, vibrant and true to their volcanic roots, these are wines of real southern personality. Discover the fire and freshness of Campania.
