Theopetra Estate Terre Grec Assyrtiko 2025
£11.25
The wine
A vibrant Assyrtiko with striking aromas of lime, passion fruit and hints of orange leaf, through to a zesty palate with a long and mineral finish.
Assyrtiko grown at Tyrnavos in Thessaly rather than on Santorini's volcanic ash. The variety travels better than most, keeping its searing acidity and citrus intensity wherever it is planted, and away from the island it gives a slightly more open, fruit-forward wine. Organically farmed, and fermented cool in steel.

Theopetra Estate
View all Theopetra Estate winesThe Tsililis family created Theopetra Estate in 1996 at the foot of the Meteora rocks in Thessaly, farming organically on the slopes below the monasteries.
The setting is genuinely ancient. The Theopetra Cave beside the vineyards has been excavated continuously for decades and holds evidence of human occupation running back some 130,000 years, including what may be the oldest known man-made structure, a stone wall built across the entrance during the last ice age. Grape seeds found in the cave show the vine and this landscape have coexisted for a very long time.
The estate works both the Meteora appellation and vineyards at Tyrnavos, and the range is built around Greek varieties: Assyrtiko and Malagouzia for the whites, Xinomavro and Limniona for the reds, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah alongside. Limniona in particular, a Thessalian native rescued from near extinction, is one of the more exciting Greek reds.
