The wine
An opulent blend showing black fruits, cherry and sweet aromas of quince paste layered with hints of black pepper, sandalwood and coffee. The flavours of dark fruits and sweet spice are echoed on the voluptuous palate, with rich tannins and a long, complex finish.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah alongside Limniona, a Thessalian native rescued from near extinction over the past two decades. The international pair bring the weight and the oak-friendly structure, Limniona the perfume and freshness, and the Meteora altitude keeps the whole thing from turning heavy.

Theopetra Estate
View all Theopetra Estate winesThe Tsililis family created Theopetra Estate in 1996 at the foot of the Meteora rocks in Thessaly, farming organically on the slopes below the monasteries.
The setting is genuinely ancient. The Theopetra Cave beside the vineyards has been excavated continuously for decades and holds evidence of human occupation running back some 130,000 years, including what may be the oldest known man-made structure, a stone wall built across the entrance during the last ice age. Grape seeds found in the cave show the vine and this landscape have coexisted for a very long time.
The estate works both the Meteora appellation and vineyards at Tyrnavos, and the range is built around Greek varieties: Assyrtiko and Malagouzia for the whites, Xinomavro and Limniona for the reds, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah alongside. Limniona in particular, a Thessalian native rescued from near extinction, is one of the more exciting Greek reds.
