Terrapieno Valpolicella Ripasso 2023
£13.75
The wine
Ripasso means repassed: the young Valpolicella is put back onto the skins left over from Amarone, where it picks up colour, alcohol and weight from what the dried grapes did not give up.
The result sits between ordinary Valpolicella and Amarone in every respect, which is exactly why the technique exists. Valpolicella is Corvina-led with Rondinella, and the region distinctive wines come from its drying lofts, where bunches are laid out for months to lose water before pressing. Terrapieno work the Foscarino hill, one of the best-known sites of Soave Classico.

Terrapieno
View all Terrapieno winesTerrapieno draws on the classic vineyards of the Veneto, the rolling hills east of Verona that have given the world Soave and Valpolicella. These are wines rooted in tradition, made to show their region with clarity and warmth.
The whites are built on Garganega, the noble grape of Soave, while the reds turn to Corvina and its companions for their perfume and cherry-bright fruit.
The Foscarino Soave Classico is a mineral, almond-scented white from a celebrated hillside, and the Valpolicella Ripasso gains depth and spice from a second pass over Amarone skins, a richer, velvety expression of Veneto red.
Honest, characterful and endlessly food-friendly, these are wines that speak of their homeland. Explore the enduring charm of the Veneto.
