Tenuta Valdipiatta Vigna d Alfiero Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2020
£35.45
The wine
Deep ruby red, with intense sour cherry, raspberry, violet and real perfume.
Vigna d Alfiero is a single vineyard in the eastern part of the appellation. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is Sangiovese, called Prugnolo Gentile locally, and it was the FIRST wine in Italy to be awarded DOCG status, in 1980. It has nothing to do with the grape Montepulciano, which grows in Abruzzo — the name refers to the Tuscan town, and the confusion is endless.

Tenuta Valdipiatta
View all Tenuta Valdipiatta winesTenuta Valdipiatta is one of the most respected estates in Montepulciano, a name long associated with the finest expressions of Vino Nobile. Its hillside vineyards in eastern Tuscany are farmed with a purist's care for Sangiovese, known here as Prugnolo Gentile.
The estate favours elegance and transparency over power. Traditional large-cask ageing and a light hand in the cellar allow the character of each site to speak, giving wines of perfume, fine tannin and genuine ageing potential.
The estate Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a benchmark of the appellation, harmonious and food-friendly. The single-vineyard Vigna d'Alfiero is the more profound cru bottling, a wine of depth, structure and grace built for the cellar.
Classic, cultured and true to their roots, these are Tuscan reds of real pedigree. Discover the poised side of Montepulciano.
