The wine

Straw yellow with light green hues. The nose runs to citrus fruit, vanilla and soft spice, and the palate is complex and well integrated, with a rich texture and a long, fresh finish.

The Specogna family farm 25 organic hectares on the hill of Rocca Bernarda in the heart of the Colli Orientali, planted in a natural amphitheatre at 120 metres with south-east exposure. Soils are marl, sandstone and clay, and the vines are Guyot-trained at 4,000 per hectare. Michele and Cristian Specogna work the vineyard themselves and set out to extract as much flavour from the fruit as it will give. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed on arrival; most of the wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel with the remainder in large barrels, the two blended together after a few months. 2025 was variable, with a wet spring that demanded vigilance against disease and a summer that swung between heat and storms, but the crop came in healthy.

The producer

Specogna is a respected family estate in the Colli Orientali of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, north-eastern Italy famed white-wine region. The family crafts pure, characterful wines that showcase the area native grapes and distinctive terroir.

The vineyards lie on the marl-and-sandstone soils known as ponca, ideal for aromatic, textural whites. Careful farming and thoughtful winemaking, including skin-contact and barrel-ageing where fitting, bring depth and personality to each wine.

The range spans crisp Friulano, the traditional copper-hued Pinot Grigio Ramato, juicy Refosco, and the ambitious Riserva and Identita bottlings that show the estate at its most serious.

Pure, textural and full of character, Specogna captures the distinctive charm of Friulian wine.
