Sollazzo Bianco d’Italia 2025
£7.75
The wine
The white in the Sollazzo trio, built on Trebbiano with a supporting cast of indigenous varieties. Light, dry and zesty, with citrus and white floral character and the clean bitter-lemon twist that marks out honest Italian everyday white. Made sustainably in Emilia-Romagna.
Trebbiano is the most planted white grape in Italy and among the most planted in the world, though several distinct varieties share the name. It is naturally high in acidity and light in aroma, which makes it a clean, refreshing wine rather than an ambitious one. Vino d'Italia allows fruit from anywhere in the country.
The producer
Sollazzo
View all Sollazzo winesSollazzo is a range of everyday Italian wines carrying the broad Vino d'Italia designation, which allows fruit to be drawn from anywhere in the country and blended without regard to regional boundaries.
That designation is often treated as a mark of anonymity, and for most wines it is. It also gives the winemaker complete freedom: there are no rules about which grapes may be used or in what proportion, which is why several of Italy's most celebrated wines began life under a similar catch-all label before the appellation system caught up with them.
These are wines made for the table and priced accordingly. The name means amusement or diversion in Italian, which is a fair statement of intent.
