The wine

Textured and layered, with grapefruit, wet stone and hints of orange blossom.

Duncan Savage made his first wines in 2011 and built his name on saline Sauvignon Blanc from true coastal sites, handled for texture rather than for pungency. Sauvignon in South Africa is usually made in the crisp aromatic mould, so a version worked this way, with lees contact and time in the cellar, is a deliberate departure from the regional norm.

The producer

Savage Wines is the acclaimed personal project of Duncan Savage, one of the Cape most talented and sought-after winemakers. His small-production, terroir-driven wines have earned a cult following around the world.

Working with carefully chosen parcels across the cool, coastal reaches of the Western Cape, Savage farms and sources with obsessive attention to detail, favouring restraint, freshness and a light hand in the cellar. Every wine is built around texture, tension and place.

The range is defined by distinctive, mineral whites and elegant reds, including the textural Salt River Sauvignon Blanc, each precise, characterful and expressive of its origin.

Refined, original and quietly profound, Savage Wines stands among the very finest new-wave producers of the Cape.
