Sattlerhof Ried Kapellenweingarten Sauvignon Blanc 2020
£36.25
The wine
Multi-layered and savoury, with well-defined ripe pear, mango and lemon zest.
Ried Kapellenweingarten is a named single vineyard, and a 2020 released now has had time to develop the weight that alpine Sauvignon gains with age, which few expect of the variety. The Südsteiermark, southern Styria, runs along the Slovenian border on slopes reaching 25 to 70 per cent gradient, and it produces Austria most highly regarded Sauvignon Blanc. The style sits between the Loire and Marlborough: herbal and mineral rather than pungent, with an alpine sharpness.
