The wine

Deep ruby red. Ripe black fruit with hints of mint and liquorice, medium bodied on the palate.

A Bordeaux-style blend from the Cachapoal, where Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère all ripen readily. Chile is protected from phylloxera by the Atacama desert to the north, the Pacific to the west and the Andes to the east, so its vines grow on their own roots rather than grafted rootstock, which is unusual almost anywhere else in the world. Sanama is made in the Cachapoal valley in Chile, on the generous alluvial soils of the valley floor.
