The wine
Rich and generous, with black cherry, raspberry and plum supported by vanilla.
Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world and the only one in New Zealand with a continental rather than maritime climate: hot days, cold nights and a real winter. That swing is what gives its Pinot Noir the concentration and lift the region is known for, and it is why the variety succeeds there where most of the country is too maritime for it. Rua was founded by a family who arrived in the mid-1990s.
