Raymond Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
£50.95
The wine
Expressive flavours of raspberry and blackberry are complemented by blackcurrant and warm plum, underpinned by chocolatey nuances. The elegant and opulent palate is textured with plush tannins through to a smooth and velvety finish.
The estate vineyards lie in Rutherford and St Helena, both certified organic and biodynamic. Rutherford is the historic heart of Napa, a gravelly alluvial bench on the western side of the valley whose Cabernet carries the dusty tannic signature growers call Rutherford dust.
The producer
Raymond Vineyards
View all Raymond Vineyards winesThe Raymond family arrived in Napa in 1933, the year Prohibition ended, and founded their own estate in Rutherford in 1970. It has grown from 36 hectares to 121 across Rutherford, St Helena and Jameson Canyon.
The Rutherford and St Helena vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, and the winery runs entirely on renewable power, which is unusual at this scale in Napa. Rutherford is the valley's historic heart, a gravelly alluvial bench on the western side whose Cabernet carries the dusty tannic signature growers call Rutherford dust.
The range is deliberately tiered. R Collection carries the broad California appellation and is made for everyday drinking; Reserve Selection comes from the Napa Valley estate vineyards and is a different proposition entirely. Having both makes the price difference between a state-wide blend and Napa fruit unusually easy to taste.
