The wine
Clear and bright with youthful hues. Vibrant and intense, with citrus and bright nectarine.
Vinho Verde is the wet, green north-west of Portugal, and the name means green wine in the sense of young rather than coloured. The traditional pergolas trained vines high off the ground to keep grapes away from damp and to leave space for other crops beneath, which is why the region wines were historically thin and sharp. Low trellising and proper canopy management is what turned the region from a curiosity into a serious source of dry white. Quinta de Azevedo is a sixteenth-century estate at Barcelos in the Vinho Verde, replanted to modern low trellising rather than the traditional high pergolas and equipped with a modern winery.

Quinta de Azevedo
View all Quinta de Azevedo winesQuinta de Azevedo is one of the most beautiful and celebrated estates in Vinho Verde, its seventeenth-century manor house and vineyards a landmark of Portugal verdant northwest. Part of the Sogrape family, it has long set the standard for the region fresh, aromatic whites.
The vineyards lie in the Cavado valley, where granite soils and a cool, damp Atlantic climate give the wines their signature freshness, delicate spritz and vivid aromatics. Loureiro and Alvarinho are the stars, farmed and vinified with precision.
The range spans the classic, thirst-quenching Vinho Verde, varietal Alvarinho and Loureiro Escolha bottlings, and the ambitious Torre and Honra cuvees that show just how serious and age-worthy the region can be.
Fresh, fragrant and impeccably made, Quinta de Azevedo captures the joy of Vinho Verde while proving its potential for real depth and class.
